Earn your credentials as a GOTC Recognized* Tree Climbing Facilitator!

Tree Climbing Facilitators are trained professionals who enable inexperienced climbers to enjoy recreational tree climbing.

Tree Climbing Guides are trained facilitation professionals who take inexperienced or novice climbers into the treetops, climbing alongside them.

Whether you are looking to start a recreational tree climbing program at your camp or organization, pursue a job as a recreational tree climbing facilitator/guide, or start your own facilitation/guide business, this course will introduce you to the standards, procedures, and guidelines of running a professional facilitated climb event.

Facilitators & guides are responsible for inspecting and preparing the tree, climbing systems, and the participants for recreational tree climbing. Facilitators and guides are responsible for the safety and well-being of the climbers and possess skills to coach and manage multiple climbers on rope at the same time.

This course introduces students to GOTC facilitated climb guidelines, facilitation procedures, modified climbing systems, climber assistance techniques, and aerial rescue. Facilitator proficiency cannot be gained in a virtual course, which is why your instructor will continue to act as a mentor and consultant in the months following the course to aid and support you as you build your program and pursue your GOTC credentials.

Prerequisite: Students must be experienced in basic MRS/DdRT tree climbing techniques. These skills can be learned through our Beginning Tree Climbing 2-day course or similar courses & training programs. All students must gain instructor approval in order to enroll in the virtual Tree Climbing Facilitation course. (Contact us here)

In nearly 40 years as an organized activity, no tree climber following GOTC or similar safety guidelines has been notably injured.

* GOTC Recognition requires satisfactory completion of all course requirements. e.g. Satisfactory completion of course, demonstrated climbing proficiency, demonstrated facilitation ability (logged experience), demonstrated aerial-rescue skills. Climbers may need 2-6 months of climbing and/or facilitation experience for completion.
