- Class Time: 8:00am-3:00pm - - Capacity: MRS= 3 students, SRS= 2 students - - Ages: adults, 18yrs+ - |
Price: $397.00 per person
Includes: - 7-hrs class instruction - Copy of MRS or SRS Advanced Climbing Techniques manual & reference guide - 2 days of post-class climbing opportunities with Treetop Explorer instructor and use of our climbing equipment. |
Two Courses Offered:
1) Moving Rope Systems - "Beyond the Blake's"- Advanced Moving Rope Systems & Techiques (7hr Workshop) For those climbers currently climbing MRS/DdRT (or SRS/SRT), looking to improve efficiency and learn additional MRS techniques, equipment, hitches, and devices. 2) Intro to Stationary Rope Systems (SRS/SRT) (7hr Workshop) For climbers ready to get into SRS/SRT climbing to take advantage of some if its characteristics such as expedited ascent time. Some climbers use MRS exclusively.
Others may use SRS exclusively. MOST climbers utilize both systems! |
Both workshops introduce students to advanced climbing systems and techniques that can expand your ability to explore trees and forest canopies more thoroughly, reduce fatigue and improve efficiency. Instruction includes proper use and care of the equipment and covers skills needed to install and use advanced systems and techniques.
Pre-requisite: MRS/DdRT proficiency or previous student of our Beginning Tree Climbing class (or equivalent with instructor approval). Knowledge, experience, and practical understanding of tree inspections, tie-in-point evaluation, and tree dynamics are necessary for climbers looking to expand their skills beyond the basics.
MRS- Beyond the Blake's: Advanced MRS systems, hitches, techniques (Advanced MRS/DdRT)
Are you still ascending using the hip-thrust? There are climbing techniques more efficient than thrusting your way to the top!
Are you ready to learn alternatives to the Blake's hitch? Try alternative hitches and MRS systems that can help you improve your climbing efficiency and enhance your experience in the branches!
Learn about devices and techniques that can be added into your current system and style of climbing.

SRS- Stationary Rope Systems: Intro to SRS systems, considerations, techniques (SRS/SRT)
Advancements in technical tree climbing equipment have brought SRS into the mainstream. The forces applied to the tree and your body are different than those in MRS climbing. It is necessary to understand and take these considerations in into account to optimize your performance and minimize your risk for injury.
Learn the basics of SRS/SRT climbing, systems, equipment, and ascent techniques. Stationary Rope Systems can help reduce fatigue, improve efficiency, and expedite your ascent.
The number of SRS devices can be overwhelming, but fall into 2 types: mechanical or hybrid (utilizing a hitch cord w/mechanical assist). You will be introduced to both types.

Forest canopy access climbers can choose from alternative SRS/SRT systems. These systems utilize one-direction devices; one for ascent & switching to another for descent. Systems/Techniques include the Texas Kick, Frog Walker, Yo-Yo/RAD, and variations. Examples of devices used include: hand-chest-foot ascenders, jumar, ultrascender for ascent, and racks, I'D, RIG for descent.

NOTICE TO ARBORISTS & TREE CARE WORKERS
The Advanced Climbing Techniques workshops build upon the skills covered in our Beginning Tree Climbing course. The information introduced in ACT workshops assumes you have developed proficiency in the basics related to tree inspection and climbing with an MRS/DdRT closed system (e.g. climbing on a taut-line or Blake's hitch). Our BTC course is not a prerequisite, but experience in technical tree climbing is necessary.
The MRS-Beyond the Blake's workshop picks up where our BTC course left off and takes into consideration your skills-proficiency and personal goals. The SRS-Stationary Rope Systems workshop covers the basics of SRS/SRT systems and related climbing skills to get you started with SRS. We do not cover pruning & rigging in these workshops.
Your instructor is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, TCIA Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP), TCIA Tree Care Academy approved instructor, and holds TCIA SRT Climber, Aerial Rescue, Tree Climber Specialist, and Tree Care Specialist certificates.
